Some herbs grow just like vines, stretching out and twining their way upward as they grow.

Even though we set up a green trellis net, this little vine worked hard to stretch itself toward another herb on the right instead — which made me laugh without thinking (haha).
Such a cute one.
This is butterfly pea, a plant that blooms with vivid blue flowers. Native to Southeast Asia, it’s especially loved in Thailand, where the flowers are commonly enjoyed as herbal tea.

Maybe the mesh of the net was a bit too small?
I tried gently guiding the vines into it, so now we’ll just keep an eye on how it does. Today was fairly comfortable with less direct sunlight, though the hot days are still far from over. Around this Obon season, you can really feel the heat beginning to shift little by little.
Butterfly pea has been gaining attention as a drink believed to support anti-aging benefits, and our herb varieties continue to grow in number♫
More herbs are planned to be added to Kyoto Sōen in early autumn.
The journey is just getting started♪
